L’Ambassadeur Washington, D.C., May 27, 2012
Dear Mr. Goldberg,
On behalf of France, I am delighted by your tribute to Pierre Charles L’Enfant, who even today stands as a vibrant symbol of the special relationship between France and the United States. A genuine character who is part of our shared history, L’Enfant led a particularly colorful life and embodied with great flair the creative energy and ardor of a seminal generation of “transatlantic builders.”
Born in Eure-et-Loir and resting in Arlington Cemetery, Pierre Charles L’Enfant was a heroic soldier as well as a man of art and culture. But for those of us who live and work in Washington, he was above all the architect of a dream. Even though his plans for a Federal City were not carried out during his lifetime, the U.S. capital bears the indelible imprint of the man whose vision first inspired it, and for that we have reason to be grateful.
It is therefore with great pleasure that I welcome your article on your blog le-mot-juste-en-anglais.com
Sincerely yours,

Francois Delattre
