A truly fascinating interview ! Translating poetry can be horrendously difficult I have read four translations of Rimbaud’s Ma Bohème, only one of which I found satisfactory. The French translations of some of Robert Frost’s wonderful poetry are a commendable attempt at converying the enchanting magic of his verse, but they somehow lack the evocative power of the original. Some of the French translations of Wallace Stevens' poems are as obscure as their English counterparts . Perhaps only a poet is best equipped to translate poetry ?
